Fall Fun Series | What Fall Means to Me

Fall Fun | What Fall Means to Me

My admiration for Autumn is more than the just apple scents, cozy fashion, and pumpkin coffee. It is my favorite season because of the memories that come along with it. Fall is when my fiancé and I began dating six years ago. It’s when I started reading Harry Potter and fell in love with the magic. It also brings back the feeling of being totally relaxed with the screen door open and a candle burning for the first time. Throughout the year when I crave the feeling of fall, this is what I’m usually envisioning.

While I have so many fond Autumn memories, there is one that I will always treasure. In October 2012, my niece Lilly had recently turned 1 and just started walking. I went to visit for the weekend and as soon as I saw her, she ran up to me for the first time and gave me the biggest hug. That little voluntary act was filled with so much love and I’ve always held it close to my heart. We spent the rest of that weekend playing in the leaves and going to a pumpkin patch.

Fall certainly is my favorite time of year to burn candles but it’s also so much more than that. I can’t wait to get married next month just to have one more reason to love this season!

Such delightful photos Michelle. Harry Potter does seem fallish maybe because the particular troubling mystery of the books starts developing as the kids head back to Hogwarts. I started reading HP on summer vacation, so that explains my loyalty to that season;p

I know just how you feel about those little ones running into your arms with abandon, being an aunt is the most cherished part of my life, soak up all those moments because they grow up so fast!

They definitely do grow up fast! My niece just started first grade and doesn’t think Harry Potter is cool anymore, my heart is clearly in pieces.

Beautiful post as always, Michelle – and that story is so sweet. 🙂 Spontaneous displays of affection from kids (and do they really display any other kind?) are just the best. 🙂

Thank you so much, Sandra! The spontaneous affection really is the best, well next to getting some surprise cuddles from our furry friends too 🙂

That photo of Leaves reminds me I need to seek out that candle pretty soon here. I love that sweet story about your niece. <3 You two are beautiful together. And the Harry Potter…. YES! Very much a fall theme I enjoy. You make me want to break out some hot cider and dig into a good book.

Aw, thanks Julie! I actually have been re-reading a chapter of Harry Potter every day so far this fall and it’s so amazing. Hope you faired well during the storm this past weekend!

Congratulations and best wishes for your upcoming wedding! Your thoughts on autumn are really touching. I have similar memories with my nieces and nephew and you’re right – the season is beautiful for a lot more reasons than just candles and coffee.
