Fragrance Empties | December 2018

Fragrance Empties | December 2018

Ah, December – the busiest time of the year. Between the Christmas shopping, present wrapping, rush project deadlines, and holiday travels I didn’t have much time to focus on my burning. As you can see above, that is all I was able to enjoy throughout this final month of the year. Nevertheless, let’s dive in to my thoughts.

Marshmallow Fireside

Bath & Body Works, 3-wick
Scent
10
Performance

Yes
A classic fragrance that no matter the performance or throw I will always repurchase and burn.

Spiced Vanilla Embers

Wal-Mart, wax melt
Scent
8
Throw
5
Repurchase?
No
This is a knock-off version of Marshmallow fireside in every way possible and wasn’t at all impressive.

Merry Cookie

Bath & Body Works, hand soap
Scent
6
Performance
4
Repurchase?
No
If it wasn’t for a sale earlier in the season, I never would’ve picked this scent up. There is something about the fragrance that just doesn’t smell like an authentic cookie to me which isn’t enjoyable. Fairly happy that it didn’t linger after washing my hands.

Marshmallow Fireside

Bath & Body Works, wallflower
Scent
10
Throw
6
Repurchase?
Yes
Again, a favorite December scent of mine. Even though this version didn’t perform I’ll try it again next year.

White Mint Latte

Bath & Body Works, wallflower
Scent
8
Throw
6
Repurchase?
No
I adore this fragrance in candle form but wasn’t too fond of it like this. It wasn’t all that detectable in my small office area at any point in the month.

Peppermint Brownie

Bath & Body Works, wallflower
Scent
8
Throw
9
Repurchase?
No
I am SO confused by this fragrance. In this form it smelled like a bakery lavender combination. I didn’t mind it at all but wasn’t what I wanted at the time and didn’t match the scent description at all.

In 2018 I burned 46 Candles & 39 Wax Melts!

As we wrap up this year it’s sad to see that my melting has reduced 50% since 2016 yet my collection has hardly dwindled. With that being said, I think it’s time to take a break from this blog as its taken the enjoyment out of fragrances for me and made it into more of a chore. I do still plan to track my empties but on a simple spreadsheet. If you still want to keep up with what I’m burning, check it out HERE.

Hoping you all have a wonderful 2019! 🙂

Fragrance Empties | November 2018

Fragrance Empties | November 2018

As I hoped, I was able to (sort of) revive my melting game in November! Between traveling for the holiday, transitioning to full-time freelance, and STILL not having my candles accessible in our new space, I’d say I’m pretty happy with what I did manage to burn through.

Candle Empties | November 2018

Creamy Nutmeg

Bath & Body Works, 3-wick
Scent
7
Performance
7
Throw
6
Repurchase?
No
I am not as enthusiastic about this fragrance as I was upon it’s re-release a few years back, so I wasn’t too disappointed when it wasn’t a good performer. (Even in the melter.)

Chestnut & Clove

Bath & Body Works, 3-wick
Scent
9
Performance
7
Throw
8
Repurchase?
Yes
This is my go-to fragrance around Thanksgiving and aside from some sooting, it didn’t disappoint!

Rustic Harvest

Woodwick, 1-wick
Scent
9
Performance
7
Throw
6
Repurchase?
No
While I love the ambiance of Woodwick, they just burn down far too quickly and hardly throw even in the smallest spaces. So even though I adore this holiday-apple scent, it just isn’t worth the money.

Wax Empties | November 2018

Sweater Weather

Bath & Body Works, wax melt, x2
Scent
8
Throw
7
Repurchase?
No
A classic BBW fall fragrance that we all know in love! I did enjoy this, but the price just doesn’t justify how little wax you receive.

Vanilla Cookie Crunch

Wal-Mart, value wax melt
Scent
9
Throw
8
Repurchase?
Yes
The go-to mixer scent that is delicious no matter what time of year!

Cranberry Oatmeal Cookie

Wal-Mart, wax melt
Scent
7
Throw
8
Repurchase?
No
I was shocked to find that I didn’t love this cranberry fragrance nearly as much as last year! It smelled far too fruity which isn’t what I enjoy this time of year. I actually gave away some of my stash to a friend who is much more obsessed with it than I am!

Cranberry Cookie Crumble

Wal-Mart, wax melt
Scent
10
Throw
8
Repurchase?
Yes
This is by far my favorite bakery cranberry fragrance to-date! Wishing I had stocked up more a few years back since it hasn’t been re-released.

Wallflower Empties | November 2018

Creamy Nutmeg

Bath & Body Works, wallflower
Scent
7
Throw
7
Repurchase?
No
This performed really well for a wallflower and was always detectible in my office space! Unfortunately, I’m just not much of a fan so even though I had oil leftover I was just kind of over it.

Chestnut & Clove

Bath & Body Works, wallflower
Scent
9
Throw
6
Repurchase?
Yes
Like typical wallflowers, this threw wonderfully at first and quickly became non-existent for the majority of the month. I’d still repurchase in the future though because of how much I adore the scent!

Sweater Weather

Bath & Body Works, wallflower
Scent
8
Throw
6
Repurchase?
No
This was nice and fairly detectable all month, but nothing too special.

This month I burned 3 Candles & 5 Wax Melts!

I’m still shocked that November has already come to an end but am happy with the overall group of fragrances I melted this month. Hopefully I’ll be able to keep this up in December too! What was your favorite fragrance of the month? Share in the comments below!

Fragrance Empties | October 2018

October 2018 Home Fragrance Empties

Happy Halloween! The end of the month really snuck up on me (yet again) in October which means it’s time to share my home fragrance empties! We still have yet to unpack the majority of our house due to work craziness which hasn’t exactly encouraged me to burn or melt much of my collection. Here is what we did enjoy this October! 🙂

(Also, I apologize for the awful quality of this month’s photos – I’m still trying to determine where the best place is to take pictures in our new space!)

October 2018 Candle Empties

Pumpkin Pie

Bath & Body Works, 1-wick, x2
Scent
10
Performance
8
Throw
8
Repurchase?
Yes
The ultimate fall candle in my opinion with notes of pumpkin and a buttery crust. I finished these off in the candle melter to really enjoy them.

Pumpkin Spiced Cheesecake

Bath & Body Works, 1-wick, x2
Scent
8
Performance
6
Throw
5
Repurchase?
No
I don’t really enjoy this scent as much as I once did. Maybe it was the low-quality tester candles? Even once I moved them to the candle melter it didn’t improve much.

October 2018 Wax Empties

Salted Caramel Grahams

Better Homes & Gardens, wax melt
Scent
7
Throw
8
Repurchase?
No
When this released in 2017 I was obsessed with this scent, especially because it’s a dupe of BBW Pumpkin Spiced Cheesecake. Yet, I just wasn’t impressed by it in our new home. (I have so many back-ups if anyone is missing this!)

Moonlit Magic Pumpkin

Better Homes & Gardens, wax melt
Scent
9
Throw
8
Repurchase?
Yes
OMG this 2017 release still amazes me. On cold it smells like a cologne scent yet when warmed it’s a delicious bakery pumpkin. SO HAPPY I have backups of this, lol.

October 2018 Fragrance Empties

Pumpkin Pie

Bath & Body Works, wallflower
Scent
10
Throw
9
Repurchase?
Yes
I’m really confused why BBW hasn’t brought this back in a couple years because this is INCREDIBLE in all forms. Honestly, this is the best wallflower that I’ve used in a long time.

Pumpkin Spiced Cheesecake

Bath & Body Works, wallflower
Scent
8
Throw
7
Repurchase?
No
This form of PSC was never all that great. It smells a bit off and I’m happy it wasn’t a great performer.

Maple Cinnamon Pancakes

Bath & Body Works, wallflower
Scent
8
Throw
5
Repurchase?
No
This is straight-up a repackage of Pumpkin Caramel Latte from back in the day. The quality of this fragrance in wallflower form has really decreased since I first tried it in 2011 – it barely detectable in my bedroom all month.

Crisp Morning Air

Bath & Body Works, hand-soap
Scent
8
Performance
7
Repurchase?
Yes
One of my favorite apple scents that has a hint of an outdoorsy note which is very recognizable in New England.

Golden Autumn Day

Bath & Body Works, hand-sanitizer, DNF
Scent
2
Performance
8
Repurchase?
No
I love this fragrance in other forms, but it really didn’t work as a hand sanitizer. Every time I used it, I was so grossed out by the scent for the rest of the day and ended up just DNF’ing it.

This month I burned 4 Candles & 2 Wax Melts!

As far as October goes, this has been the least exciting fragrance-wise in years. I won’t let that discourage me next month though and hope to revive my melting game before the year is over! What was your favorite fragrance of the month? Share in the comments below!

Fragrance Empties | September 2018

September 2018 Fragrance Empties

Happy Fall, fellow melters! We finally moved into our new place at the beginning of September…and proceeded to live out of boxes all month because of our crazy work schedules. Due to this, I haven’t even unpacked any of my wax melters yet and my candles are still hidden away in crates. Luckily, I was able to dig a few things out to enjoy since this is typically my favorite burning month of the entire year!

This fragrance really amazed me in this form throughout the entire house this month!

Pumpkin Cupcake

While this scent is a delicious buttercream, there isn’t any pumpkin notes to be detected which I really wanted.

Crisp Morning Air

Bath & Body Works, hand sanitizer

10
Repurchase?
Yes
A super fresh apple scent that was really nice to get whiffs of throughout the day after using it.

This month I burned 2 Candles & 0 Wax Melts!

I’m pretty bummed that I didn’t get to melt a single wax melt in September, especially since the majority of my collection are scents I would’ve enjoyed this past month. (Sometimes being a seasonal burner is tough, lol.) The exciting thing I discovered while burning the two candles was that fragrances really travel and linger in our new home! We were living in a rather large space for the past year and a half which I think negatively effected my burning habits. Hopefully we can get settled in soon and start enjoying my stash again!

Fragrance Empties | August 2018

August was a month of packing for us as we plan to move into our new house VERY soon! I was a little worried that I wouldn’t have too much time to focus on burning. However, I was pleasantly surprised with what I melted through!

August 2018 Candle Empties

Pumpkin Banana Muffin

Bath & Body Works, 3-wick
Scent

A delectable fragrance that smelled identical to freshly baked muffins. It’s too bad this candle hardly threw at all, even when put on the melter 🙁

Berry Waffle Cone

Bath & Body Works, 3-wick
Scent
10
Performance
8
Throw
10
Repurchase?
Yes
One of the best bakery fragrances I’ve ever smelled – thank goodness BBW brought this back for 2018. If it weren’t for wicks randomly extinguishing themselves, this would have been a 10 star candle all-around!

Paradise Spice

Yankee Candle, 1-wick
Scent
7
Performance
2
Throw
3
Repurchase?
No
In true Yankee fashion, this hardly threw and took too long to fully pool – so it lived the majority of its life in the melter. It was a beautiful cinnamon & banana blend though!

White Chocolate Apple

Yankee Candle, 1-wick
Scent
8
Performance
5
Throw
3
Repurchase?
No
I’ve been burning through this candle for YEARS. Since its such a slow burner, I decided to just go ahead and put it in the melter where it lasted for weeks! It’s really comparable to BBW Summer Boardwalk which is why I wouldn’t bother repurchasing.

Summer Boardwalk

Bath & Body Works, 3-wick
Scent
10
Performance
7
Throw
8
Repurchase?
Yes
Summer Boardwalk is a classic transitional scent for me, but this version wasn’t the best performer.

August 2018 Wax Empties

Pumpkin Berry Tart

Better Homes & Gardens, wax melt
Scent
8
Throw
4
Repurchase?
No
On cold, this smelled identical to a fresh berry pie! When melting though, you really only detected the berry note when you could smell it at all.

Corpsman

Super Tarts, wax melt
Scent
10
Throw
8
Repurchase?
Yes
This still remains one of my favorite fragrances of all time! It’s truly a graham cracker scent that is the perfect blend of salty & sweet and really throws!

August 2018 Fragrance Empties

Pumpkin Cranberry Cider

Bath & Body Works, hand soap
Scent
6
Performance
4
Repurchase?
No
Honestly, I’ve been working on this soap since LAST SEPTEMBER! The fragrance is straight up cranberry with an undertone of cider which really isn’t my preferred notes.

Fresh Rain & Spearmint

Bath & Body Works, hand soap
Scent
7
Performance
8
Repurchase?
Yes
This was gifted to me on my wedding weekend last October and we’ve been slowly using it ever since. It’s a really nice fresh fragrance that lingered long after using it!

Pumpkin Berry Tart

Bath & Body Works, hand sanitizer

Wow, this was incredible. A beautiful berry & bakery blend that I couldn’t get enough of. Really wishing I had more!

This month I burned 5 Candles & 2 Wax Melts!

Even though I didn’t necessarily discover any new fragrances in August, this was still a great transitional month for me! What was your favorite candle of the month? Share in the comments below!

Fragrance Empties | July 2018

Fragrance Empties | July 2018

Can this year just slow down please? July came and went in the blink of an eye and I hardly got to melt a majority of my favorite fragrances. Don’t get me wrong, I’m ecstatic that Fall is right around the corner, but I just haven’t been melting as much as I’d like to lately because of my busy schedule. Hopefully I’ll have a bit more burning time during my favorite upcoming melting season! Let’s take a look at July’s empties before we get any farther ahead of ourselves.

Candle Empties | July 2018

Funnel Cake

Bath & Body Works, 1-wick
Scent

I didn’t even bother trying to burn this candle and put it straight in the melter where it fragranced the surrounding area beautifully.

Salted Oak Bonfire

Bath & Body Works, 3-wick
Scent
8
Performance
6
Throw
5
Repurchase?
No
This scent truly reminds me of being on the beach. It didn’t throw that great when burning so lived the majority of it’s life in the melter. There it performed amazing!

Banana Split Milkshake

Bath & Body Works, 3-wick
Scent
8
Performance
5
Throw
3
Repurchase?
No
On cold, this smelled EXACTLY like a chocolate dipped banana. It turned into a truly disappointing burn though and smelled like melted wax. Putting it in the melter really saved the fragrance though and scented my entire home.

Wax Empties | July 2018

Salted Pistachio Sorbet

Better Homes & Gardens, wax melt
Scent
8
Throw
7
Repurchase?
No
A beautiful pistachio blend that didn’t last for too long melting.

Bonfire Beach

Scentsy, wax melt
Scent
9
Throw
6
Repurchase?
Yes
This is an exact dupe of the former BBW hit Summer Bonfire. Think of Marshmallow Fireside with a different wood-note and hint of citrus. I don’t necessarily think this threw poorly because of the wax itself, but because of the circulation in my home.

Fragrance Empties | July 2018

Boardwalk Vanilla Cone

Bath & Body Works, hand soap
Scent
10
Performance
5
Repurchase?
Yes
One of the best fragrances that BBW has ever released and I will always repurchase no matter the performance. Think of vanilla ice cream inside a freshly baked waffle cone.

Boardwalk Vanilla Cone

Bath & Body Works, hand sanitizer
Scent
10
Performance
10
Repurchase?
Yes
Again, this scent is incredible and I will purchase it in every form.

Summertime Soda Pop

Bath & Body Works, wallflower
Scent
6
Throw
7
Repurchase?
No
A citrus fizzy fragrance that faintly lasted all month long but just wasn’t all that successful in wallflower form – it lost all it’s sweetness.

Funnel Cake

Bath & Body Works, wallflower
Scent
9
Throw
8
Repurchase?
No
This wallflower was consistently strong ALL month long – probably one of the best BBW has ever released.

This month I burned 3 Candles & 2 Wax Melts!

You may have noticed that the majority of my candles over the past few months have been put in the melter; I think this is a big discouragement to my burning frequency as of late. Maybe it’s just our current living space? I think I’ll start trying to experiment with different burn locations in August to help motivate me to get through more of my stash!

This was essentially unscented when burning and for the amount of time it takes for Yankee’s to pool out, they’re just not worth it. This ended up living almost it’s entire life in the melter (for 2 weeks!) and was a nice clear fragrance for the bathroom.

Pink Apple Punch

My absolute favorite hand soap fragrance did not disappoint again! It didn’t linger as long as it has in the past but I still enjoyed it while it lasted.

Bonjour Paris

Bath & Body Works, body wash

A sweet patisserie fragrance that I thoroughly enjoyed over the past several months! I wouldn’t repurchase if it returned only because I don’t particularly want to use BBW body washes going forward.

Lemon Buttercream

Bath & Body Works, hand sanitizer
Scent

A super sweet lemon bakery fragrance that was definitely enjoyable throughout the Spring! Again, trying to tone back on my BBW products which is the only reason I wouldn’t repurchase.

Summertime Soda Pop

This month I burned 4 Candles & 2 Wax Melts!

As much as I’d like for things to slow down so I can start to enjoy this portion of my life a bit more again, I know July will be just as busy. I can’t wait to share with you some of the crazy changes that have been going on so you can all understand why burning as been put on the back burner lately!

May 2018 Fragrance Empties

Just like most of 2018 so far, May was a whirlwind. We’ve been extremely busy and again didn’t have much time to think about melting. The following candles and wax melts I did manage to get through this month though.

A sweet patisserie fragrance that I thoroughly enjoyed over the past several months! I wouldn’t repurchase if it returned only because I already stocked up and don’t need more.

This month I burned 2 Candles & 5 Wax Melts!

May wasn’t exactly the most exciting month of melting, but I’m happy to have enjoyed just about everything I used up. At this point, I’m getting excited for SAS and hoping those hyped BBW candles are worth the splurge – they’ll be my first candle purchases of the year if so! If that’s the case, maybe it’ll revive my passion for the world of wax. If not, I have a feeling there will be more smaller burning months until Fall comes around.

Fragrance Empties | April 2018

April has come and gone in a flash and it surprisingly didn’t allow much burn time for me. My husband unfortunately got into an accident (he’s okay) and making sure he healed properly became first priority. Melting was just not on my radar and due to that this blog has become somewhat neglected too. April craziness aside, here is what I did manage to get through this month.

My only stand-out fragrance of April was Iced Lemon Poundcake and I might very well continue enjoying it into the next month too. Please cross your fingers for me that allergies won’t completely take over my life this upcoming May so I’m able to enjoy more of my collection!

Fragrance Empties| March 2018

After an amazing month of burning in February, I sadly didn’t continue the streak in March. Anytime that we were actually home, lighting a candle didn’t even cross my mind. This is probably because there hasn’t been much going on in the wax community that has excited me this year. I still haven’t purchased a single fragrance-related product in 2018, can you believe that?! Nevertheless, here are the fragrances in my collection that I did manage to enjoy in March.

Not particularly being a floral person, I actually enjoyed this. I’m pretty happy with the few I have left in my stash though.

This was just as amazing as it’s original release and even though I now have an embarrassing amount in my possession, I’d still re-purchase forever.

A beautiful lavender & bakery blend that I’ll never get sick of.

This IS NOT Lavender Macaron, it has more of a creaminess than a bakery note. The single wick performed horribly and I would never buy in this form again.

A rose tea blend with a hint of bakery that reveals itself when warm. I adore this scent but my husband can’t stand it.

On cold, a really pretty floral fragrance. I just wasn’t exactly a fan when melting and happy to have only had a sample.

One of my favorite sugary sweet fragrances for the beginning of Spring, unfortunately this wax seems to be pretty old and didn’t perform well.

I was pretty impressed by this wallflower, however I’m just not that into florals to repurchase if given the opportunity to again.

Absolutely incredible fragrance that filled my office space and lasted ALL month long!

This is honestly nothing special; it’s a generic sweet scent that hardly lingers after using. However, it’s a nice soft transition option!

This month I burned 5 Candles & 3 Wax Melts!

My favorite scent of March was hands-down Raspberry Peach Macaron. I was so happy to be able to enjoy it again and loved every second of it. As I mentioned at the beginning of this post, nothing in the wax-world is really captivating me this year so far so don’t be surprised if I seem to go MIA. I’m just dedicating my time to other areas of my life and hope to get through a lot of products I already own without getting caught up in the constant buying cycle.
